History of Campaign Furniture
Centuries-old campaign-style furniture has its roots in the military – portable furniture that was made for travel. It can be traced back to the Romans - Julius Caesar was the first to bring foldable furniture carried to his military campaigns.
The peak period of military use was during the Georgian and Victorian periods (1714-1901). In the post-war era of furniture production in the United States (1920s – 1980s), campaign furniture experienced a huge resurgence in production and trendiness. Campaign furniture has iconic recessed brass handles and brass angle pieces served an aesthetic function and allowed the furniture to be easily transported with no damage to fragile corners.
These iconic designs are priceless pieces of American History.
